Just a little update on me :)

In case you are wondering why I have such little posts recently, I have been madly working away on the World Card Making Day card contest.  I made three of them, and I would loove to show you guys and get some feedback on it, but as part of the requirement, you cannot post anywhere public.  It's hard to know what the judges are looking for - there's just too much talented people out there, and wouldn't have a clue how they are going to judge that.  However, if any one of you are interested, it is sponsored by Paper Crafts Magazine, and more info can be found here.  All the submissions (that are not winners) are sent to the troops through Operation Write Home.  So, just making them made me happy to know that I'm doing this for a good cause.  After the deadline has passed, and assuming that I'm not one of the lucky people, I'll post them at that time.

My reno has been pushed back and I'm still at my parents till mid October.  I don't have any problems with that - actually, I think that I've got it pretty good right now.  It's going to be hard to go back to doing everything myself :)  How spoiled am I?

Here's some simple cards again that I made that I'll share with you:

And - my three winners from my blog candy - I just sent it in the mail today, so hopefully it won't take too long to get to your mailbox.  Let me know when you get them!  Have a great evening!

My blog giveaway winner!

Hello!  I couldn't wait to see who the winner was, so I decided to pick the winner tonight!  I didn't realize that random.org requires membership, and I would've, except that I had such a small turnout (which is awesome for the followers - more likely chance to win!), so decided to use a free service online.

The number picked for me was:
2
Random numbers generated Sep 25 2010 at 0:12:34 by http://www.psychicscience.org/

The winner of this challenge goes to:  Flamenco92627 who said "Ooh, how sweet, Thienly! Thanks. One interesting thing about me is I have been doing flamenco dance for about 16 years. I'm still amateur though LOL!

My favorite project you've done so far SO hard to pick, but I loved your dates to remember book. It is recent so it popped into my head, but seriously, I could name a ton. Thanks again! "  Congrats!  E-mail me with your address along with which blog candy you want and it'll be in the mail on Monday!

Thanks again for following my blog girls!

A friend that has made the most comments on my blog is...

Oh gosh, this was such a close one.  I had to count it twice to make sure that I got it correct.  It's just so close that I think that I'm going to send out something to both of these people.  I've gotten to know both of them personally and those two are really good friends, too!  So I just can't choose - they both make my blog life so fun!  So, you must be wondering who these two are - they are Bee Burg (24 comments) and Bee's Hive (23 comments).  Come on girls, you know how these things work - get your address to me, and I'll be mailing something in the next few days!  As for what - since there's two, I'm going to give the random winner the chance to choose, and I'll divide the other into two, and will most likely be adding a little more :)

I made more of these favorite cards with Stretch your imagination cart:

My little giveaway.

So as I promised yesterday - I put together something "little" to give away to my friends.  I hope you didn't expect a Cricut cart or something like that - I'm only starting out, and if, one day, I become famous, I'll get some sponsers...hahaha :)  But for now, I was just going to bundle them up together, but decided to break them in two, and give it to two friends instead of one!

To make things a little fun, all you need to do is to leave a comment here on this post and I'll pick a random winner, using random.org n.  The comment must be of two things - tell me one interesting fact about yourself (so I can get to know you better :)) and tell me your favorite project out of everything I've done so far.  I'll leave people to post comments for 3 days (til Friday night), and I'll pick a winner on Saturday.

Notice I said "a winner?" - the other one, I decided to give it to the friend that has left me the most comments and feedback on my blog up til now.  I can only do this, cause my blog is not that big, but I need to count up the comments.  I'll post this winner in the next few days, and she (perhaps he?) can pick which of the two they would like.

A gift from Cely - Creating Carolina.

I just found a surprise packet in the mail today, and it was from Cely!  Cely is the wonderful SVG artist from Creating in Carolina.  She makes cool cards with the designs either from SVG Cuts or her own SVGs.  She makes the funnest SVGs that you can download (for free!) few times a week, so if you haven't been there already - make sure that you check it out, cause you're missing out!

So here's the goodies - Hallowe'en stamps, paper clips (so cute!) and papers (I commented on one of her cards that I like the paper she used, she told me that she got it from Hobby Lobby, and when I told her we don't have that store in Canada, she sent it to me!).

Thanks so much Cely!  You made my day!

I've hit my first milestone - 100 followers!

I just checked my blog today, and I'm at 100 followers!  I've started in May - that's not too bad, if I say so myself :)  I initially started a blog, only to keep track of everything I do, and to share my creations with families and friends.  Who knew that all along this that I would make so many online friends?  It's made my life so much fuller and I've gotten so much encouragement from these "friends" that share similar interests as me.  It's been so fun to inspire each other and to learn new techniques.  Thanks to those who often leave comments on my posts - any feedback or just to say "hi" - they all mean a lot to me.

One special thanks goes to SVGCuts - Leo and Mary - for providing me the opportunity to challenge myself and become a part of their design team.  I was so ecstatic when they approached me after my third monthly challenge win if I would create things for them on a regular basis.  It's always been my dream to do what I love, which is papercrafting, and be acknowledged and appreciated for what I do.  Although it's been crazy busy (3 kids, me living at my parents (still) and madly painting my house away for the reno) and I only get to do my crafts in the evenings, I wasn't going to give up that chance.  Since then, I've been plugging away on each project, one at a time, and I'm sure you all see - this is where I am right now.  I've met tons of wonderful people, which are all my friends now, many of them through SVGCuts and can't thank Leo and Mary enough!

To celebrate my 100 followers - I've decided to put up a little blog candy with some goodies stashed away in my drawer.  I'll be putting that together tonight - so check back tomorrow for details and see what I'm going to be giving away to a lucky winner :)

Thanks again, everyone.  I love you all :)

Holiday Cosmetic Gala Advertising.

My husband owns two Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacies in Calgary, one being a big box format with cosmetic department as well.  They are putting on a gala in November and was asked if I could do the advertising.  So, since I've finished my SVGCuts project, this is what I was working on.

I used the graphics from The Lettering Delights, O Tannenbaum collection. Then I took these graphics into Scrapbook Factory program and created store ads, 130 tickets, and bag stuffers. My favorite is the ornamental ad with sparkly ribbons. The tickets were backed onto metallic paper.

Felt, felt, felt!

Brrr!  Ohhh, it's getting chilly outside these days, and it's only September!  The worst part about this is that our reno is not over, and we only brought over our summer wardrobe over to my parent's house.  I think that I have to go digging through my boxes at home stacked on top of each other in the basement and try to find some warmer clothes!

So, as I was making cards today, I wanted to get into a cozy mood, and reached over to the warm, fuzzy looking felt canisters from American Crafts.  I`ve made some simple cards today, and wanted to share them with you.  I punched in holes on the felt to make it button-like, and used twine to sew the felts on the cardboard.

Enjoy!  Hope you all are having a great weekend!

"Dates to remember" book.

I just finished my latest project for SVGCuts.com.  This time, I decided to use my new tool, the Cinch (it's awesome!) and make a book.  I'm so disorganized when it comes to remembering friends and families birthdays.  So - in hopes of being more efficient, I've decided to put together a book to keep all the special dates together.  I put in many hours of labor into this, probably making this the most elaborate project I've done.  However, I just love Mary's SVGs, I started cutting, and I wanted to include them all into my book. You can hopefully understand why I get so out of control when you see all her images!

So, here's the completed project:

For more detail on the specific collections used and the dimensions, please see SVGCuts blog.  Click here.

My challenge entry for Creating in Carolina.

My friend Cely over at Creating in Carolina, has her first challenge going on and I decided to take a part in it.  For this contest, you need to use at least one of her wonderful SVGs to create a card.  She's got tons of great files, and she keeps inspiring us with creations she's made from them.  I love all her cut files, but chose her boutique and broom to create a witch house card to get myself in a Hallowe'en mood.  There's going to be two winners (one judged winner and one random winner) and will get a SVGCuts collection of their choice.  Here's my entry:

Wish me luck :)

SVGCuts.com freebie file cheat sheet update!

I have put together a cheat sheet of all the recent SVG files from SVGCuts.com (all files from June 13, 2010).  I guess that I could have waited for 4 more files to make the page complete, but I just wanted it all in my hands now!  and I'm sure you do, too!  So, here it is - leave a message here with your e-mail address if you would like this sheet e-mailed to you.

My mom's second present for ME!

Here's the second creation of my mom's handbag series.  This is a smaller one - made from cotton fabric.  She put in interfacing between the layers to make the bag hold its shape, and I just love the way it turned out!  The flower is made from layers of handcut flowers, made stiffer by using cornstarch, and handcrumpled it to give it a natural look and was sewn together.  How cute it that???  I really think that she should start her own blog or her own store.  But for now, thanks mom - I LOVE the bag!

As for my project, it's about two thirds done - oh, can't wait to show you my newest project!!!

Cherry on Top Award.

I woke up this morning to a wonderful surprise - my hilarious (she really is wickedly funny!!!), creative friend I met through SVGCuts has sent me this award.  I've gotten to know her in the last little while, and found out that she has similar movie interests, her kids are about the same age as mine, and she loves scrapbooking - wow, I probably would be such great friends if we lived close.  I never knew that I would meet so many wonderful people when I started blogging.  Don't you just wish that you could meet them??? Thank you so much Bee (Belinda Brown) - you've made my day!  You could check her awesome blog here.

According to her rules - I'm supposed to state 3 things that I love.  Hmmm...  I never knew that, but here goes:  my family, my scrapbooking stuff and my tea.  I have to have a cup of tea (or two) on a daily basis.  These are things that keep me going.  And yes, if there's a 4th option, it would be chocolate.  I was never really into chocolate until kids came along - and I discovered that it really does help to reduce my stress levels!

Another rule - post a picture I love:
This was taken on the day I came from the hospital after giving birth to my daugher the day before.  I always wanted a girl - and it was a girl!!! Now my happy family is complete :)

Now I pass my award on to 5 great people I met through SVGCuts.
1. Cely (http://creatingincarolina.blogspot.com/).  She's got a challenge going over at her blog right now till Sept 15.  You need to use one or more of her SVG files to create a card.  If you are the winner, you get a collection of your choice from SVGCuts.  I really need to work on this one.  Go check her blog out - she's wonderful gal!
2. Cheryl (http://dragonflydesigns58.blogspot.com/)
She's a crazy SVGCuts fan!  She's on top of it when it comes to making a card with a new SVGCuts collection.  She makes new creations all the time, and it's so fun to get some inspirations for these files.
3. Celeste (http://dragonflydesigns58.blogspot.com/
Another big SVGCuts fan - she's just amazing.  She makes tons of cards for the troops, does fundraising with her work, she makes journals for the patients...  She sure knows how to keep her Cricut busy!  Way to go, Celeste!
4. Cheryl (http://cafexpressions.blogspot.com/)
She's truly talented as well - and makes really cute SVGs.  She's done a lot of crafting, too - so go check her out!
5.  Reets (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001518410659&v=info#!/profile.php?id=100001518410659&v=wall)  not really a blog (I don't think that she has a blog, but here's her Facebook site) - She's so genuine, so warm - you just have to love her.  She's gone through a great deal and has overcome all this because of her family, friends and crafting.  Be sure to check out all the wonderful things she's created.

Dull Cricut Blade? Don't buy replacement yet!

As I was cutting all my stuff on Cricut, I was losing patience watching all my beautiful cardstock gone to waste because of my old, dull, blade.  It would start cutting, and then it would tear and make the paper bunch up.  I didn't have any replacements on hand, and weather being so gloomy and rainy, there was no way I was going to take my 3 kids in the car to get a new blade.

Then it occurred to me that if I can sharpen a knife, why wouldn't I be able to do that with a Cricut blade?  I took the blade, ran it through the sharpening block just a few times and look at the difference:

I would recommend doing it only a few times, as doing too much would alter the length of the blade - and that would most likely create problems in setting the depth of the blade.  However, in the meantime, I do have 3 other dull ones - I'm going to pull all of them out and sharpen them before I decide to take my 3 kids out to buy a blade.

Something my best friend made for me.

I've been madly trying to work on my new project and it's taking a long time.  I've really noticed that I have slowed down in my number of posts I make and I feel that I may lose my loyal followers attention.  I guess that quality of my project is very important to me and I want to do a good job on it.  So, I thought that I would share something different in the next few upcoming posts.

This is not really a papercraft, nor something I made.  However, it was made for me from someone I consider as my best friend and something so pretty, I just had to share it with you.  Although you guys are paper crafters, I myself, wished that I can sew and I'm sure that some of you can sew to appreciate the detail put in to them.

This special person is my mom.  I've been living with her for the past few months and while I do my papercrafting, she does sewing - namely, bag making.  She only started this a couple of months ago, and she's made over 10 bags!  She's given me 4 of them!  I'm going to be taking the next few blog posts to share some special creations that she's made for me!  I am stocked up in bags - I just need special places to go now!

My first one to show you is probably my favorite one.  It's made with black linen fabric, with inside cotton designer fabric purchased from Stitchsteals.  It's reversible, and has a pretty flower with ribon that can be taken off - not that I would ever take it off!  I love the way it hangs, I just love how much it fits inside, everything about it is so me.  The person modelling for me is my mom, by the way :)

Just because cards.

Oh, when does my busy life ever slow down?  I'm sure you all can relate, but I feel like I can never catch up.  I perhaps procrastinate too much.  Maybe it's Facebook and Creating the Hive, and all the cool shopping sites...  maybe it's my parent's great food in the kitchen (I live with my parents temporary) that I get pulled there more often than to stay put in my craft chair.  Perhaps it is all the painting, packing, organizing that I'm doing.  Or, life is just simply hectic with 3 kids.  Nevertheless, I managed to put together two simple cards today.  And, I just started on another SVGCuts project tonight.  It may take a while, so don't get too excited just yet!  I hope that all of you are well :)

I just learned how to make these 3D flowers out from a flower shape and a circle cut 4 times each.  Ink the edges, crumple up the sides, take the flower shaped cuts and fold them in half and layer it over another, and glue them on to the bottom (circle pieces on top of each other) and then I added button in the middle.
