Second Paper Dolls Challenge - A Miniature Dollhouse!!!!

Whoa! It’s been a week since I last posted! Did ya miss me?? I’m hoping that you did!

I think that I’m close to getting all the Paper Doll stuff under control, so I can start doing some other fun stuff and share them with you! My other tools and machines have been calling out my name, “Come play with me!” Not to mention I’ve got other goodies coming my way (and I hear Canada Post is on strike??? Please tell me this won't last too long – I cannot possibly wait weeks for all my packages to arrive!), and I NEED to dedicate some time to give my love to other crafting goodness. However, I’ve been loving every moment working on this new blog with Tamara, and so I have nothing to complain! It’s just I don’t want you to forget about my blog and lose all my followers :)

Okay, I realize that it's kinda random but I want all my blog followers to join my FB mod paperie page.  So, if you haven't yet - join me now!  I thought that it would get your attention this way! :)

Anyway, so today we’ve revealed a new Monday Challenge over at the Paper Dolls! I’ve been so excited about this one, I just couldn’t wait to share this! The challenge is to create something using the dollhouse file from Patricia Zepada’s A Little Hut blog. She is just so amazing, and I am just awed by her simple and tasteful SVGs. These are nothing like you’ve ever seen before – they are styles that would come out from modern design books. Simple lines, yet each has a stong impact.

Tamara and I fell in love with this dollhouse instantaneously, and knew that we wanted to use this for our challenge. Patricia was ecstatic about using her files for the challenge, too!

Anyway, here’s my version of the house that I’ve created from her file:

You like??? My kids were thrilled to see this project!

I even added in a decorative element to the house!

The wreath was just a simple strip of fabric twisted and glued together at the ends.  I added in a little white twine bow to finish it off :)

The roof tiles were embossed with Cuttlebug embossing folder (Ohmycraft exclusive one) and was adhered to the roof by staggering it. Love the way it turned out.

Are you ready to see the inside??

Ta-da!!!

I’ve added roofing tiles, the awning, the little wreath, the bike, the moulding/baseboards and the rocking chair with the magazine rack to make it all my style. I actually wanted to go all out and add the yard with the fence and add house numbers, outside lights, mailbox, and add more furnitures inside - but there's only so much time. Another idea that I thought was totally cute would be to change the windows to other window SVG files that’s sitting on my computer… maybe next time. Or, perhaps, I’ve inspired you with ideas???

I also did a double layer to the house, and it made it nice and sturdy :) Before I glued the layers together, I punched a small hole at the top of the vaulted ceiling and hung a twine down so I can attach a lamp shade.
With the bed and the flooring, I finally got to use some of my pretty fabrics that’s sitting in my drawer.

Don’t you just love the rocking chair??? I LOVE all the small details on it. If you love this file and want to have it yourself – the file is actually made by our guest designer who designed the Paper Dolls T-shirts for our first challenge –  Memories by Anna Dawn.  Go to this post to get yours! (Check out other incredible things she made – actually I wanted to make all of them and put it inside the house, but no such time for me!) Leave a comment under her blog post, and she’ll send you the rocking chair!

I cut out the house at 15.8" wide, and cutting beds proportional to that size.  The rocking chair was cut at 2.0" wide from Memories by Anna Dawn, and the bike was cut at 2.0" wide and awning was 1.8" wide (both from SVGCuts Peony Cottage collection).  I used the SVGCuts Flowers PartII Collection - extra 6.svg was cut at 1.5" wide and curved to make the pendant lighting.

The little magazine rack with books - I just made one out of hand, as well as the mouldings and baseboards by adhering strips around the edges.

So, this week, we have two sponsors! One is the Paper Quilt collection from Patricia Zepada for the best project and there’s also $10 from SVG Place for a random winner.

I hope you liked my inspiration project! Please go to Paper Dolls to see Tamara's version of the house and what our guest designer Kasi came up with as well as the details to the challenge!

Now, go get busy – and hope to see your version of this house up on the Paper Dolls blog!

Have a great day, everyone!

  1. I love all the details you put into your house Thienly. I don't know why but the one that stuck out the most was the hanging lamp—adorable! And the baseboards are brilliant too. Everything looks great. Thank you so much for having me for this challenge. :)
