It's a Finding Nemo Fish Tank!

The other night, my kids decided to watch Finding Nemo.  I LOVE that movie... but I've watched it far too many times.  Not LOVE it enough to sacrifice few hours of potential crafting! lol... So yeah... I sneaked out of the TV room and sat down in my crafty chair... what to make, what to make...

Then, I was inspired! Yeah! I'll make a fish tank, inspired by the movie!

This is something I whipped up SUPER QUICK - so you'll notice that it's not perfect.. but it's cute, and I was not going to let my kids play with something that I put hours and hours of labor into it.  (I was right... 5 minutes into playing with this, they crashed into it, and squashed the lid! It's all taped up now...)

Nevertheless, they were ECSTATIC, and their faces lit up with excitement as soon as I showed this to them!

So fun, isn't it?

Yeah, I know... this is not how the real story goes... Marlin was never in the fish tank... nor Dory, nor Crush, nor Bruce... but that's okay! This is just papercrafting! lol...

So, here are the main characters to the story... gotta love Nemo, and Marlin.

Next up is Dory..

You also see Gill... (without a scar! lol... trying to make it kid friendly!... more like I forgot!) ... and watch out, Dory! There's Bruce behind ya! Just keep swimmin' :) Here's Crush.

You see Sheldon, the seahorse, in the back???

The next one has got to be my favorite picture of this project!

Photobucket

It's Peach! I slightly curved the arms and stuck onto the tank glass! :)

... and here's Bruce! He's a little too big for this fish tank... yup, he's already bumping his head in the corner! Oh, you see the pink stains on his teeth...  oh, oh! Watch out, Nemo!

So, how do you make this, you may ask?

I made the tank out of the box from Ryan's Play Date SVG Kit. I made it exactly the size that it opens up in the software, and cut out a rectangle from each of the sides and covered with acetate from inside.

The lid sides, I narrowed each strip down to 1" high, so the lid won't hang as low. I hang some fishes with a fishing line and glued it underneath the lid.

All of the fishes are taken from Tropical Friends SVG Collection.

... and the sandcastle is from Wet and Wild SVG Kit.

Put everything together, add some sand or base rocks, and that's it! It's a super fun project to make, especially when the kids are going to LOVE it so much!

Oooh, before I let you go - you NEED to SEE this LATEST from SVG Cuts! They just keep on amazing me week after week... and every week, I think it's one of my favorite ever! lol... But seriously, THIS ONE has REALLY got to be one of my FAVES!

  12. How did you make Dory? I don't see any fish like her in the SVGcuts file you referenced. I bought that file set, but realized I still need to make a Dory! Thanks!

    1. I used the fish in that collection that is below the parrot! Just in different colours! Hope this helps! I would LOVE to see this if you make one! :)

    2. Oh! Of course! That fish was blending into the background and I totally overlooked it on the SVGcuts "menu" page too. Thanks! I am actually making these fish to decorate a diaper cake for a baby shower (the nursery is Finding Nemo themed). I'd love to send you a pic if I can figure out how to send you a photo! :) Love your inspiration tank!

    3. Also, what did you put at the bottom of your "tank"? Looks like sand?! Is it real sand or scrapbooking paper that looks like sand (or something else!)?

    4. Yep - it's a sand! I just added glue at the bottom and poured sand on it and hardened it :) I guess you can mix glue into sand and adhere it that way, too!
